DVD Flashback Friday: Update and Call for Submissions!

I kind of want to keep DVD Flashback Friday going, but I’ve got nothing to write about this week. Instead, I’m giving you a look at what’s to come this fall.
I’m almost finished season three of Mad Men and so far it has been amazing. The last couple episodes I watched (including a heartbreaking one involving Sal) were outstanding. I can’t wait to finish the season, and hopefully I’ll have a review up next Friday. Then I can start catching up on season four!

I recently purchased the first season of Friday Night Lights on DVD and have watched two episodes so far. The first episode didn’t 100% grab me, but I started to get into it more during the second episode. I always hear great things about this show, so hopefully I’ll finish the season within the next month or so.

Treme. I want to like Treme. I should like Treme. But that first episode is SO LONG. It’s over an hour long, guys. It’s like a movie. I started watching it, and I will finish it. But I’m not dying to watch it. I think the problem is that I’m not a huge fan of Steve Zahn. He rubs me the wrong way. But I’m not giving up. Season two doesn’t start until Spring 2011, so I’ll try and finish the episodes and if I don’t get hooked then I won’t tune in.

Planet Earth. I was really liking Planet Earth, and then I got bored. I’m fixin’ to get back on the wagon there, though, so expect something soon.

I know everyone says Band of Brothers is really good. But I haven’t heard a compelling argument for it yet. So here’s the challenge – convince me it deserves a place in my busy TV-viewing schedule.

Now here’s the other thing: I want to know what you’re watching. Did you watch all of True Blood this summer? Are you a fan of Cougar Town? Are you singing the praises of Breaking Bad? Then write a post for me. The very exclusive reward is my friendship, which also happens to be priceless. So get to it! (If you want to do this, contact me on Facebook or Twitter.)

You MUST continue on with the FNL. I do not say this lightly when I say it is The.Best.Show.Ever. Caps and excessive punctuation necessary.

Hopefully I'll watch some of it this weekend – worst case scenario, I'll start to really get into it once I'm caught up on Mad Men. Life would be so much easier if I watched everything from Day One!

  3. Diogenes says:

You would have to mention Breaking Bad (lol). All I can say is I am just 'preying' for the day that the characters Walt, Jesse, and Gus are busted or wacked (they could take Saul with them). Hank and Walt jr. are the only decent people in the series, the rest are real scumbags! There has to be several reasons why this show has won so many awards. Can't wait for the new season to start. This show way overshadows the Sopranos and the Brotherhood. The latest word I have seen is the new season won't start until July of next year, kind of sad.

  4. Jill Mader says:

When was The Brotherhood on? I've never heard of it.

  5. Diogenes says:

The Brotherhood was a Showtime series about 2 brothers in Rhode Island, one a state representative in the RI house and the other was mobbed up, both of Irish extraction. The series revolves around corruption in RI politics and the mob connection to the corruption. Actually, the Brotherhood was a fairly good series in all. The series ran for 4 seasons from around 2006 to 2009. It was a real shame when the series ended, really liked the series. To be truthful, I enjoyed the Brotherhood over the Sopranos, especially the last few seasons of the Sopranos were just not as good as the earlier seasons. The last season of the Sopranos was just awful compared to any of the prior seasons. The Brotherhood is available on DVD.

Sounds interesting, I'm going to keep my eye out for it!
