Finally, someone on Dexter mentioned Harrison!
One of the most glaring problems in last week’s episode was that Deb had Dexter move into her apartment for 24/7 surveillance without any mention of his kid. Was Harrison going to live in the apartment with Jamie? Since we only saw two nights last week, I hoped it would be addressed in this episode. It wasn’t. Sigh.
The mention came early, with Deb asking Dexter about the risks he was exposing his son to. He wanted her to lay off with the constant watching, but she wasn’t so sure. But then it went nowhere – no more mention of Dexter’s kid. I like how the Deb and Dexter tension is building though. This week, Dexter tried to get Deb off his back by showing her his vetting process for victims. She didn’t bite, of course, and the friction between them is growing.
Dexter managed to get Louis out of the picture without personally killing him. He anonymously sent the ice truck killer evidence back to the lab and that dirty video diary to Jamie. Louis was suddenly out a job and a girlfriend, but we all knew he’d want revenge…
I’d been having trouble caring about the Russian mob/stripper storyline, but it finally heated up. Getting there took a while, but a tracking chip in a bracelet led the mob to Dexter. But when they found his boat? Louis was on it, seeking that revenge we just talked about. Buh-bye, Louis.
This was the first time we got to see Yvonne Strahovski, who Chuck fans will know. I was excited to hear she’d be on the show this season, and I’m intrigued about where this role will go. She’s playing Hannah, the murder partner of the serial killer who threw himself in front of a truck last week. She’s cleaned up and moved on, and she’s smart and sassy. A love interest for Dexter? A partner in crime? Both?
There was even a criminal this week – someone Dexter would have killed, but didn’t because of Deb. He was a crazy dude, and I liked how everything played out with Deb and Dex chasing him in the creepy maze. The guy got away, helping Deb understand why Dexter’s code might not be so bad after all. “I hate it, but I get it”, Deb said to Dexter. She told Dexter to move back to his apartment, so I guess Jamie can stop single-handedly raising Harrison.
“Everything’s changed. I don’t know if it can ever be the same.”
We’re at an interesting place now with Deb and Dexter. She’s stopped trying to reform him, but she’s not his cheerleader. Where will they go from here? I’m into this season a lot so far. What do you guys think?

The writers are letting us know that anyone can be axed from the show at any time. That should keep us on our toes. At least they shot down my “Louis” theory. That would have been too predictable! They are slowly building up this Russian mob boss – he is quite the ruthless character, and will make a much more worthy adversary for Dexter in the long run as opposed to some cheeky wannabe intern. I like the developing plot, and the dangling of a possible love interest for Dexter. I do think everyone is tired of Deb constantly on his case … I was glad to see her backing off a little bit. And, of course we get a mention of Harrison! A tiny reality check in the comic book world of Dexter Morgan, Miami Metro lab geek. I say that because all the bad guys always have to have these elaborate cartoonish M.O.s, the latest being a serial killer that has to set up a carnival fun-house style maze in an empty house.
Totally!
Very glad that Louis got it, I was so sick of him. Yeah, I mentioned the Harrison thing last week too and where was that kid while Jaime was watching videos over at Louis’. Ridiculous, let the kid go visit Astor, Cody and his grandparents. It’s a throwaway line people.
Other than that I thought it was a good episode, I liked the stuff at the beginning and the maze at the end, and Dexter is never better than when he is hunting, so that was good too. I thought maybe Deb had turned a corner into well, maybe not acceptance, but something other than disgust. I do think it is interesting that Deb has Dexter to basically thank for her meteoric rise, all of her theories on these killers were planted by Dex. I wonder if that little tidbit has something to do with her change of heart. I mean the thing is she is doomed anyway, she is now an accomplice and headed for jail if he ever gets caught no matter what her level of disgust is.
Yeah, they really should just send Harrison away for a bit. But maybe now that Deb is in the place she’s in, Dexter can go back to his normal routine with his son.
(And you make a great point about Deb – it will be interesting if she realizes that Dexter did give her so many ideas.)
I found it all kinds of amusing that the killer for this ep thought he was the Minotaur from Greek Mythology, and killed using a labyrinth.
But anyways, another good ep, and the show is well on its way to redeeming itself for the missteps. There are still some holes, but there are things that should come into play down the line, and there is at least some logic behind the decisions that Deb is making in regards to Dexter.
Now if we could just stop pretending that Quinn matters.
Oh Quinn. Another character I wouldn’t shed a tear over if he died.
I only got into Dexter about 7 months ago and went through 6 seasons within a couple weeks, It is by far the best show I’ve ever watched in my personal opinion. Granted season 6 was off beat and wasn’t as good as the other seasons it was still better the most shows I watch. Season 7 is going to be the best season if they keep this pace up. I was worried half the season would be Deb trying to figure out if Dex is a serial killer, or Dex would live with Deb for most the season however they are moving though things rather quickly. Michael Hall is the best Television actor. Dexter has to be a difficult role to play.
Season seven is definitely looking good so far!
I know we’re kind of used to this on Dexter, but when he went to take the DNA sample from Yvonne Strahovsky’s character and Batista left them in the room alone together!!! Seriously, is police procedure in Miami Metro always such an afterthought? Male member of the team left alone with a female who’s involved in an investigation? No wonder he can get away with killing people right under their noses!
Good point!
