The Voice – Battle Round V

I’m not going to lie, I breathed a sigh of relief when I read that The Voice would only be an hour tonight. I much prefer a shorter episode.

Team Cee Lo: Daniel Rosa vs. Alexis Marceaux singing “Whataya Want From Me”
An Adam Lambert song? For these two? An interesting choice on Cee Lo’s part, and one that I don’t think worked out. The song didn’t suit either of them, and I didn’t enjoy it. Overall, I think Alexis is a stronger singer, but the performance didn’t do anyone any favors. Winner: Daniel Rosa

Team Adam: Brandon Mahone vs. Nicole Nelson singing “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”
Adam usually chooses modern songs, so it was interesting to see him go so old school. Nicole is a very strong singer, and I think that definitely intimidated Brandon. It was a bit of an uneven match-up, as though Adam knew he’d keep Nicole no matter what and paired her with one of the weaker people on his team. Brandon is cute and a good singer, and he definitely held his own. It was a fantastic duet, but had to go to Nicole. Winner: Nicole Nelson

Team Christina: MarissaAnn vs. Devyn DeLoera singing “Free Your Mind”
This is a great song, but I was worried it was a bit beyond the two artists Christina was working with – both vocally and in grittiness. The rehearsals impressed me though, and I was excited for the real duel. It got kind of messy in parts because each girl was trying so hard to outsing the other, but in the end I preferred Devyn by a smidge. Winner: Devyn DeLoera

We have a steal! I wasn’t surprised to see Blake take MarissaAnn for his own team.

Team Blake chose Cassadee Pope over Ryan Jirovec, and Team Adam chose Joe Kirkland over Samuel Mouton. I’m annoyed that we didn’t get to see those battles, but tomorrow night is the last battle round and I am excited to move on. What did you guys think of tonight’s episode?

You know, I’m kind of relieved this was only an hour episode too. I think I’m being over-saturated by The Voice now. I’ve already decided to take next season off. It’s just TOO much. It’ll be nice to move away from the battle rounds and get more into the hardcore of the show next week.

I’m bummed we didn’t get to hear/see the Lady Antebellum battle!! I LOVE that song, and from the small clip we heard, I think it would have been a great battle. Ah well.
Are we assuming the people who’s battles aren’t shown don’t get much further in the competition? / How much of this is happening live? It seems the battles have been pre-recorded eons ago. At what point does The Voice time and real time match up? (Thinking out loud.)

If you managed to listen to the whole duet of the Adam Lambert hit Whataya Want From Me as attempted by Daniel and Alexis, I am very impressed with your fortitude. I simply couldn’t bear it. Got about 30 seconds in and had to save myself. Don’t understand all that bleating about Daniel’s emotional delivery but I admit I didn’t stick around.. The song requires energy, angst and anger in equal measure—-definitely not sad-sack-weepy-whines like Mom asked him for the 10th time to clean his room. Did you see the utube of the young Chinese man who sang it (with Adam) on the Chinese version of the show? Now that contestant was amazing.
