Dexter – “Helter Skelter”

Wow. That was quite an episode of Dexter, wasn’t it? Everything I’d made notes of during the episode was toast by the time we got to the end. I don’t want to spoil it for those who haven’t watched, so click through for the review.

One of the major characters from this season is dead. I liked Isaak as a character, even though I’ve been pretty disinterested in the storyline surrounding him. I liked watching him and Dexter work together in this episode, have to trust each other. The final scene on the boat was excellent, but I’m sorry to see Isaak die when there are still some episodes left.

But Hannah, she is not dead. I’m surprised Deb didn’t just let her die. I’m glad that the event pushed Hannah and Deb even closer together, because I need that storyline to move forward more quickly. I don’t want to just watch Dexter and Hannah play house. It needs to get uglier.

When Dexter told Deb that she’d be safe with him, I thought it sounded like foreshadowing. Will Hannah kill Deb, or will Dexter?

We’re obviously being set up for a big finish for this season with LaGuerta figuring out the truth. She’s already so close. Dexter usually delivers a good final two episodes and we only have three left so I am looking forward to seeing where this all goes.

Wasn’t that something? It felt like a convergence. A lot of loose threads conveniently tied up, but not in a perfunctory way. It was an intense episode. I still can’t see Deb as the one to get taken out (unless Jennifer Carpenter wants written off the show). They could have used Isaak some more, I thought – what a great character. I’m thinking that LaGuerta may jump the gun a little, like get a search warrant for Dexter’s apartment, looking for another trophy case of blood slides. Won’t Dexter be glad that he got rid of those things.

I’d be surprised if Deb was taken out, but I also think it could be really good for the show. Dexter killing Hannah would be too predictable. Ooh, maybe Deb will kill Hannah? That would be exciting.

Oh man this season is good. I’m going to miss Isaak, but he went out in style. I’m actually glad he never ended up on the table. Interesting that they would throw a new killer at us so late into the season though.

I agree, Isaak on the table would have been predictable. This was a lovely twist.

I was surprised Isaak died to early. Actually, for this to be the one guy Dexter lets go would’ve pleased me to no end.

I’m banking on Deb killing Hannah. Or Hannah running away.

Man, though, if only Deb were a blonde. Then maybe Dexter would actually go for her? (you know you thought it too!)
